Teleoperation
A person controls the robot remotely, often with a VR headset or motion-capture suit.
Teleoperation is used in two ways. First, as a working mode when the robot meets a situation it cannot handle alone, so an operator steps in. Second, as a way to record demonstrations that are later used to train the robot with imitation learning.
Ask vendors whether a demo video was autonomous or teleoperated, because the difference is large. A humanoid that folds laundry on camera may be driven by a person in a VR suit. For hazardous sites such as inspection of energy equipment, real teleoperation with low latency is a feature in itself.
