Warehouse and factory robots: AMRs, forklifts, picking systems

This category covers robots that move goods inside warehouses and plants: autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that carry carts and racks, autonomous pallet jacks and forklifts, goods-to-person picking systems and robots that unload trucks. Examples include MiR600 and OTTO 1500 for heavy loads, Locus Origin for order picking, Seegrid Palion for pallets and Boston Dynamics Stretch for unloading trailers. Exotec Skypod runs at Decathlon and UNIQLO, AGILOX ONE at Siemens and BMW.

The specs that matter most are payload (from a few dozen kilograms for picking robots to several tonnes for pallet trucks), runtime and charging, the aisle width the robot needs and whether it navigates without markers on the floor. Just as important is the fleet software and how it connects to your WMS or ERP. Ask how the robots share space with people and manual forklifts, and what the floor has to be like.

The catalog lists 20 models from 14 brands in 6 countries. Manufacturers of these systems publish no list prices: the cost depends on fleet size, integration and site layout, so it is quoted per project. To compare offers, send a quote request with your volumes and a site plan.

Frequently asked questions

+How much does a warehouse robot cost?

None of the manufacturers in this category publish a list price. The total depends on how many robots you need, the software, integration with your systems and site preparation, so vendors quote per project. A quote request with your volumes and layout is the fastest way to a real number.

+What is the difference between an AMR and an autonomous forklift?

An AMR such as MiR250 or Locus Vector carries carts, racks or boxes on its own body, or slides under a rack and lifts it, like Geek+ P800. An autonomous pallet jack or forklift, such as MiR1200 Pallet Jack or Seegrid Palion, picks up standard pallets with forks. Choose by what your goods sit on today.

+Can I rent warehouse robots or pay by subscription?

Some vendors offer it: Locus Origin, for example, is offered on a subscription (RaaS) basis. For other systems, purchase, lease or subscription terms are agreed per project. Ask about the payment model in your quote request.

+Which specs should I compare?

Payload and the way the robot picks up loads, speed, runtime and charging, the aisle width it needs and whether it requires markers or reflectors to navigate. Then check the fleet software and its link to your WMS. For high-density storage such as Exotec Skypod, Geek+ RoboShuttle or Hai Robotics HaiPick, rack height and totes per hour matter most.

+Which companies already use these robots?

Boston Dynamics Stretch unloads trucks for DHL Supply Chain, Gap and H&M. Seegrid pallet trucks work at General Motors, Ford and John Deere, Vecna systems at FedEx Ground and Geodis, and Exotec at Decathlon and UNIQLO. Known deployments are listed on each model's card.
