AMR (autonomous mobile robot)

A mobile robot that plans its own route and drives around obstacles.

An AMR builds a map of the building with sensors such as LiDAR and cameras, then chooses a path to its goal. If a pallet or a person blocks the aisle, it goes around. Delivery robots in restaurants and cleaning robots in malls are AMRs.

The practical advantage over an AGV is that you do not need to change the floor or add tracks, so a layout change is a software edit. The price is higher, and in crowded or narrow places you should check how the robot behaves when it gets stuck.
